In Memory of Margaret Giblin
July 21, 1906 - November 11, 2010
Margaret was a member of the second official delegation to Santa Maria Madre de los Pobres in February 1990 when she was 83 years old. It was a joint delegation with members from Visitation, Good Shepherd, Rockhurst College and St. Regis. This was during the time of civil war and political turmoil in El Salvador - and just 3 months after six Jesuits were killed at the University of Central America in San Salvador. Despite the risks, Margaret's goal was to rock and sing to the children of the parish who had lost parents in the war. Her experience was a witness to the universal need to be held and loved, especially in the midst of war.
Margaret was a faithful supporter of our sister parish every step of the way and was an inspiration to all. A few years before she died, on her 100th birthday, she set up the Margaret Giblin Fund for the Poor to benefit Madre. Margaret died on November 10 2010 at the age of 104. The following year, the Sister Parish Taco Dinner was dedicated to Margaret's lasting memory - and we continue to pray that her generous spirit lives on in each of us.
