Over a Century of Faith
The year was 1909.
Bishop John H. Hogan, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Kansas City, appointed Father Thomas B. McDonald to be founding pastor of Visitation Parish. Father McDonald celebrated their first Mass of the parish at the home of his parents, John and Elizabeth McDonald, 5101 Main Street. Eighty-three people, from twelve founding families, joined together to become a Catholic community at what was then the far south edge of Kansas City.
The year was 2009.
Now over 3,000 strong, the community of Visitation again joined together to observe the 100th anniversary of their blessed parish. The Centennial commemoration embodied all the traditions that had become a part of the rich heritage of this community. The members of Visitation prayed together, learned together and served together as they celebrated a Century of Faith.
